Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor's discretion. They are normally for patients on long-term treatment.
We ask that you use the NHS App, a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services. You can use the NHS App to:
- get health advice
- book appointments
- order repeat prescriptions
- request a new prescription
- view your GP health record
- and more...
To use the NHS App you must have an Apple or Android smart phone or tablet.
In order to improve our services, Napier Road Surgery will only accept repeat prescription requests via the NHS App. Once you have signed up to the NHS App, you will be able to see your available medicines and choose a pharmacy for your prescriptions to be sent to.
For more information, and instructions on how to download the NHS App, visit www.nhs.uk/nhsapp
For patients that do not own an Apple or Android smart device, you can order your repeat medication by
- simply handing in a list of medication needed at the surgery reception desk (prescription repeat slip or hand written request)
- we accept requests via email kmicb.napierroadsurgery@nhs.net
If you would like the prescription posted to you please supply an SAE.
We DO NOT accept community pharmacy repeat requests.
To avoid mistakes, we are unable to accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions.
It is our policy that we will process all repeat prescriptions within 72 hours.
Please make allowances for weekends and public holidays.
Nominating a pharmacy
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- Online, on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- At your GP practice
- At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Medication reviews
If you have a repeat prescription, we will ask you to come in for an annual review. This is to ensure safe and effective prescribing. Please book a routine appointment for your review.
To book a routine appointment:
- Request an appointment online
- Phone us Monday to Friday, from 10.00am to 6.30pm
- Visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 10.00am
Collecting your prescription
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.
Questions about your prescription

About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, they can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- Coughs
- Colds
- Sore throats
- Tummy trouble
- Aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Find a pharmacy
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private room. This means you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
